Jay Stevens

The mission is bigger than him

After a helicopter crash left him paralysed, Jay defied every medical prediction, walking to Everest Base Camp and completing a 78km ultramarathon as the world’s first paraplegic to do both. Now he’s channelling that same determination into something greater. Jay fundraises for the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation, backing the researchers working to make sure the next person told they’ll never walk again gets a different answer.

About the
Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation

Founded by Perry Cross AM who sustained a C2 spinal cord injury at 19 during a rugby tackle the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation funds world-class medical research aimed at curing paralysis. In Australia, one person sustains a spinal cord injury every single day. The Foundation has helped raise over $12 million invested into ground-breaking Australian research, and the work is far from finished.

Why Jay Raises for PCSRF

Jay knows what it means to be told you’ll never walk again. He beat the odds but not everyone can, and no one should have to rely on sheer willpower alone. A cure for paralysis is possible, and the research being done right now brings that future closer. Jay’s fundraising efforts go directly toward that goal.

The Mission

After a helicopter crash left him paralysed, Jay Stevens went on to become the world’s first paraplegic to walk to Everest Base Camp without a wheelchair — and the first to complete a full-course ultramarathon.

Jay is raising funds for the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation in connection with two upcoming challenges: a 24-hour treadmill world-record attempt and the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, one of the world’s most gruelling ultramarathon events.

Every contribution supports spinal research and helps Jay keep pushing the limits of what’s possible for people living with paraplegia.

There’s still work to do.
